General Course Layout Instructional LayoutThe basic web page for a course is divided into areas called topic or weekly sections. Each topic/weekly section typically represents one topic or week of instruction. Courses generally flow down the page from top to bottom with the very top block on the page always being present. Books Many courses have structured the content within a book resource, identified by this icon:  . Each book has chapters, and some have subchapters. Clicking on the book icon will display a new window that displays the Table of Contents (left side of the window) and the first chapter of the book (located on the right). Once inside the book, you can click on a chapter or subchapter to navigate the material. Additionally, you may use the arrow buttons to navigate the book chapters sequentially as it is listed in the Table of Contents. Entire books may be printed by clicking on this  . Individual chapters may be printed by clicking this  . Activities Activities are exercises pre-programmed by Insight and come in many forms: Quiz, Questionnaire, Choice, Forums, Assignments and more. The Activities help to reinforce the material that you have read and studied in the topic or week - in perhaps a Book. Activities Block (for Navigation) The Activities block, at the top left of the course, displays the activities and resources the instructor has added to the course.  This block can be used as an index to navigate the course. When you click on an activity or resource, a new window will appear with a list of the activities/resources by week. If it is an activity (such as "assignment"), generally a column for the due date and graded status will also appear (on those activities the instructor has set due dates/points for).  Expand/collapse topic/weekly view Another way to view the course is to focus on only topic/week or view all topics/weeks. The default view shows the entire course with all topics/weeks expanded. To focus on only one topic/week, however, you can click on the rectangle icon  at the top right corner of the topic/week of your choice. To view the entire course once again (view all the topics/weeks), click on the double-rectangle  . (Note: if all blocks are visible you will see a single rectangle. You'll see a double rectangle if only one block is visible.) Expanding/Contracting Block View Note the '-' sign in the title of the "Activities" block:  Clicking on this - sign, will shrink the entire block:  and gives you more space to view the left navigation of your course mainpage. All of the Menu blocks in Insight operate in exactly the same way. To expand the Activities Block, just click on the '+' sign, and everything is back to normal.
