Login and Change Password
To login to Insight, go to
http://insight.ccsf.edu and look for the "Login" area on the left side of the page:

Your
username is your CCSF Student ID with the letter being
lowercase. If your ID begins with an "@", change this to a lowercase "X". Click the "Login" button. (Note: your username is case-sensitive and must begin with a lowercase letter.)
Your
initial password: you will receive an auto-generated email containing your username and password to the
"preferred" email address you have on file with WebStars.
If you do not have a "preferred" email address on file with WebStars, you will need to contact our Help Desk for assistance at (415) 452-5689 during business hours (M-Thursday 9am - 4pm during the add/drop period) or fill out our Technical Support Request Form. A sample of the email is pasted below for your reference:
Hello [Your firstname],
Welcome to Insight, the new online learning management system at City College of San Francisco.
You are receiving this email because you have enrolled in a course that uses Insight.
--PLEASE PRINT AND SAVE THIS EMAIL FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.--
LOGGING ON:
- To start using Insight, login at http://insight.ccsf.edu
- In most mail programs, this should appear as a blue link which you can just click on. If that doesn't work, then cut and paste the address into the address line at the top of your web browser window.
- Your current login information is now:
username: [your CCSF ID in Insight format]
password: [your temporary password]
(you will have to change your password
when you login for the first time)
CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD:
- When you login, you will be prompted to select a new password. You will need to:
1. retype the temporary password,
2. type your new password,
3. type your new password again,
4. save your changes.
EDIT YOUR PROFILE:
- Your screen will refresh and you will see your Profile. You can edit your profile here. Your profile is your "identity" within Insight. Some options you will not be able to change, but most you have access to. The information you choose to provide in "Optional" is public to other users in the Insight system (such as students and instructors in courses you take).
- Once you have saved your profile, you will see a how it appears to others.
TO ACCESS YOUR CLASS(ES):
- To get back to the InsightHome page, click on "InsightHome" in the breadcrumb trail in the header. On the left side of the page there is a "block" called My Courses. Here you will find a list of those courses you are currently enrolled in.
CAN'T SEE YOUR CLASS(ES)?
- If one of your classes is not listed, it will appear when the instructor releases the course to students. This is usually at orientation, but the start date is up to your instructor.
HELP
- There are links to help documents on the InsightHome page under the Main Menu.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
- The system requirements for using Insight are also posted on the InsightHome page (http://insight.ccsf.edu). The requirements are listed to help you ready your computer for taking courses with Insight.
Again, welcome to using Insight and a new semester at City College of San Francisco.
Cheers from the Insight@CCSF team.
Once you've logged in, you will be prompted to select a new password* and then you will be taken to your profile screen. How to edit your profile is covered in the next chapter. Once you've chosen a new password, this will become your password for subsequent login to Insight.
*Your new password must meet the following conditions:
- must be at least 8 characters in length and contain at least 1 lowercase letter and one number
- can only contain letters and numbers (alphanumeric) - no special characters ("@" is not allowed for example)
- is case sensitive (UPPERCASE and lowercase matters)
Good example: ziggy4preZ
[Why? It uses at least 8 characters, 1 number, at least one lowercase letter, and uses an uppercase letter for added security]
Bad example: @home
[Why? It uses less than 8 characters, no number used, and special symbol used]
PLEASE NOTE: You canNOT login to your course prior to the first day of instruction every semester.
There is a Quick Start Student Guide that can assist you with logging in and editing your profile (as well as other activities). It is one page and can be downloaded in MS Word (.doc) or Adobe Reader (.pdf) format.
Please note that you MUST have an email account to use this system. The best course of action is to update your profile in WebStars as well as upon first login to Insight.
